About this product
Pink Peony Poppy SEEDS
(open pollinated)
Papaver somniferum, opium poppy
Year grown/saved: 2024
# of seeds: ΒΌ teaspoon (I haven't counted, but that's hundreds of seeds)
Note: These seeds are for growing flowers. These poppy seeds are not for human consumption.
These produce large, frilly (ruffled) dark pink poppies with large seed heads. They will self seed and come back easily - they have been popping up all over my garden year after year.
These grow about 3 ft tall and the stems are sturdier and more upright than Flanders poppies.
The seed heads are large and can be dried for decorative purposes.
Seed collecting is easy - when the seed heads are dry, brown, and rattle when tapped, cut off the stem, and carefully turn upside down over a jar or cup.
Direct sow while the ground is still frozen. Sprinkling on snow-covered ground works. Poppies need cold stratification to germinate, so the freeze thaw cycle of early spring is necessary. If you are unable to sow seeds before the snow is gone, put your seeds in the freezer.
Please see my other listings - I sell a wide variety of locally adapted vegetable and flower seeds.
