Shishito Pepper SEEDS
(open pollinated)
Year grown/saved: 2024
# of seeds: 16
Shishito peppers are a thin-skinned variety from Japan. Shishito are mostly heatless, but one in 10 or 20 will have a zing to it!
I have been growing these shishito peppers for 5 years now, selecting seed from the best-performing plants every year to replant. From about 600g of peppers per plant in 2019, I have increased the yield to over 1kg per plant. Shishito peppers are from Japan, which has very long and hot summers. My variety is adapted to Thunder Bay, which means these will grow well in a 5-gallon bucket (or larger) on your deck. Start seeds indoors to give them a head start.
Delicious roasted, grilled, or battered and fried, as in tempura. Great in stir fries as well, especially with a sweet sauce. Most people have them whole, but you can cut them in half and deseed if you prefer.
Start seeds indoors. A seed mat is recommended for seed germination. Keep under grow lights until ready to plant outside in June. (Harden off before transplanting.)
Does well in containers, but a large (5 gallon) pot is best for a good harvest.
Best harvested and eaten when green, rather than waiting for them to turn red. They will be about the size of your finger.
Please see my other listings - I sell a wide variety of locally adapted vegetable and flower seeds.
